Instagram publishing runs through Meta's Content Publishing API, which has strict requirements. Read this before connecting to avoid the most common setup mistakes.
Requirements (Read First)
- Your Instagram account must be a Business or Creator account (not a personal account).
- It must be linked to a Facebook Page. Instagram publishing borrows Page-level access — no linked Page means no publishing.
How to Connect
- Go to Social Accounts and click the Instagram tile.
- Log in via Facebook (Instagram auth flows through Meta).
- On the permission screen, keep every box checked, especially content publishing — see the troubleshooting note below.
- Attach the discovered Instagram account(s) to your workspace.
Permissions Requested
- instagram_basic — read profile and media
- instagram_content_publish — publish posts and Reels
- pages_show_list / pages_read_engagement — resolve the linked Page and read engagement
- business_management — access the Business account
Publishing Specifics & Limits
- Caption limit: 2,200 characters. Use a first comment (in the Composer) to park hashtags out of the caption.
- Feed images publish directly.
- Video posts publish as Reels — that's the only video type the Content Publishing API supports.
- Stories publish as image or video Stories; captions are not supported on Stories by the API, so any caption is omitted for that placement.
Reconnecting an Expired Connection
Click Reconnect on the Instagram card. Like Facebook, this triggers a full Meta asset re-sync.
Troubleshooting
- The reconnect dialog dropped my content-publishing permission: Meta's re-authorization screen sometimes pre-unchecks
instagram_content_publish. If you click through without re-ticking it, frik.io reconnects but can no longer publish. Fix: reconnect again and make sure every permission — content publishing especially — is checked before you confirm. - "No Instagram Business account found": your account is still personal, or it isn't linked to a Facebook Page. Convert it to Business/Creator in the Instagram app and link a Page, then reconnect.
- "Instagram requires an image": every Instagram post needs media. Attach at least one image or video before scheduling.
